Spring 2011

My name is Taylor Reeh.  I am a senior at The Governor’s Academy and I will be attending Bucknell University next year. I am from Nahant, Massachusetts, but I am currently a boarder here and a proctor in Moody dorm. I love the arts: singing with the First, playing music and acting. Last year I participated in our exchange program with the African Leadership Academy in South Africa. It was an amazing experience that I will never forget. I love being here on campus with such a wonderful community.

Hey! My name is Nora Kline and I am a senior from Beverly, MA.  Although I am a day student, I am always on campus keeping myself busy.  This winter I was the Editor-in-chief of The Governor, our amazing school newspaper. My favorite subject in school is (you guessed it!) English. But when I am not writing, you can either find me on stage acting, playing the piano, or my all time favorite – just hanging out with my friends. Next year I am attending Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.  And yes, I LOVE country music 🙂 I can easily say that Govs is my second home and so this spring I will be blogging about all of the “spring happenings” on campus.  Enjoy!

My name is Joe Uglietto and I’m a senior at The Governor’s Academy.  I played football here since I came sophomore year (I am a kicker and punter).  I will be writing about the great sports teams here at Governor’s in the winter and spring.  I am a boarder who lives in Ingham and love hanging around with friends in the dorm.  I live in Belmont, MA and am attending Colgate University in the fall and playing football for the Raiders.  I am the president of the investment club on campus and love the Academy.

Hello! My name is Claire and I’m from North Andover, Massachusetts. I’m a boarder at Governor’s and it’s awesome.  I love photography and will be taking pictures of student life, athletics, etc  for “The Grill,”  a blog that Ali Grenier ’11 and I created. Music is also a big part of my life and I hope to make it a career someday. I’m going to Belmont University in the fall, which is located in the music capital of the U.S. — Nashville, TN!  Govs is awesome and everyone is very friendly and welcoming!  I hope you like my pictures (and tales) of life at Govs!!

My name is Ali Grenier. I’m a senior at The Governor’s Academy from Nantucket, Massachusetts. I spend a lot of my time playing music with friends and playing in concerts. I love performing especially as a member of The First, our select chorus. I also spend a lot of time participating in student government. We work hard to improve student life in a way that we want. I really enjoy planning events with friends and keeping the energy up on campus. I love going to sporting events and concerts to see students getting involved.  I will be attending the University of Southern California next year and will be spending the spring working on “The Grill,” a blog that Claire Lilly ’11 and I created.

My favorite subject is science and I enjoy participating in the arts—ceramics, chorus and piano in particular. I’m attending Connecticut College in the fall.  A lot of my friends are boarders so even though I’m a day student, it is easy to get involved with the school. The great thing about Govs is that there are so many activities to participate in. This spring I’m filming every one of my classmates from the Class of ’11 and creating a video that we’re going to show at our fifth year reunion in 2016. My goal is to give you an idea of the life at Govs and show you how great The Governor’s Academy truly is.

Heyyy!  I’m Lauren LaBrique and I’m blogging for The Governor’s Academy this spring!  I’m a junior day student from North Andover, Massachusetts.  My favorite class is American Studies, and my favorite time of year at Govs is spring, when everyone starts laying around outside in their free time.  This year I have co-captained my volleyball team, written for The Governor, our student newspaper, and survived the junior thesis paper!  I can’t wait to show you how great Govs is!

My name is Sam Sherman and I’m from Rye, New Hampshire. I am a senior at The Governor’s Academy and I started here my sophomore year. Next fall I’ll most likely be attending the University of California, Santa Barbara. I’ve played soccer, hockey, and lacrosse here at the Academy, but my real focus is surfing, which I’ve been doing since I was ten. I’m a day student from the Seacoast, but the drive is worth it for the cold morning waves before school. The Governor’s Academy is great place full of opportunities and there really is a crew for everyone.

Jade Adams '11

My name is Jade Adams and I am a senior at The Governor’s Academy from Houston, Texas. I look forward to filming for the website seeing as communications is what I want to major in during college. I enjoy filming, editing, and putting music together for videos because it is fun to watch people’s reactions to seeing their face on the screen. I play the bass guitar in my free time, and I love performing live with a small group. Since I am from Texas, I am always on campus so filming should be exciting since I am always here. In my spare time I enjoy fly-fishing, rock climbing and squirrel suiting through the Swiss Alps. I hope to attend college somewhere on the west coast or in New Orleans.

Abby Matses '11

Hey everyone! My name is Abby Matses and I’m a senior from Boxford, Massachusetts.  For the past two semesters I’ve been doing research in the school archives, and sharing the history with the Govs community through my newspaper column called The Archives According to Abby. My goal in writing The AAA is to bring about an appreciation and excitement for our school’s rich history for both students and faculty alike.  With my crazy obsession with anything historical set aside, you can almost always find me drawing in Kaiser, singing songs of the classical and religious variety in the PAC, or hanging out with friends.  I hope you guys come to love Governor’s history as much as I do!

Hey! My name is Eloise Willemsen and I am a senior at The Governor’s Academy I live in Newburyport, Massachusetts. I love being a part of the Academy, my favorite classes this year are my Chinese and Spanish classes, they are both very hard but extremely rewarding.  I hope to become fluent in both languages as soon as possible. Aside from academics I’ve spent a lot of my time on the stage both performing in a variety of plays and during school concerts and off campus playing trombone in orchestra jazz band and a small combo. I love the communications program and I am very glad to be able to work on the blog this winter!
